I only have one comment to add to this discussion that bears repeating,
which I found to be true in my own experimentation.

No O/S works 100% of the time with 100% of the hardware, 100% of the
peripherals and 100% of the software. If it did Winblows users wouldn't
be jumping ship and loading Linux. 

I have an old Genius scanner I may never be able to use under Linux. So
what? I still have options: Forget Linux, continue to use it under M$ or
buy a Linux model. 

I want L-M to work with what I have now, and for me that's 6.0. All of
the other little annoyances will get worked out as I find the time and
the brain cells to do it. Right now I'm thrilled to see my KDE; it's a
darned sight prettier and user friendly than my *other* GUI. 

If you aren't happy with your current distro you have some options. Use
an older version or find a distro that you like better. 

I think we're lucky that the Mandrake team responds to our discussions
as much as they do.
