I'm sorry if I step on some toes here, and I double-cheked during the writing of
this mail to make sure I'm not telling lies here, but nVidia has a terrible
driver-policy. Oh yes, their cards work well in 2D, or at least good enough, but
their openGL drivers for XFree 3.3.5 are crappy.

Their explanation:

"The 3D support is for development on XFree86 3.3.5 only, and IS NOT a high
performance architecture. The upcoming XFree86 X server 4.0 will use the Direct
Rendering Infrastructure required to take full advantage of the RIVA
processors."

Ok, so we waited patiently for XFree 4.0 to be released. It's been how many
weeks now? I still don't see any XFree 4.0 drivers on their webpage, and they
still refer to XFree 4.0 as "The upcoming XFree86 X server 4.0".

I'm sorry, but when I bought the card it was a pretty decent one; now it's
almost a paperweight by gaming standards. But I still gotta see the first decent
linux driver for it.

If that's a measure of how much effort nVidia is willing to put into linux
development, well, then I guess I'll use the same standards when measuring my
willingness to further enrich them by buying their products.

As soon as their policy changes, nVidia might become a good choice for the linux
user again because their hardware is technically superior. Untill then, I
recommend you buy a graphics board with decent linux support.

Wayne: no offence here, but I have a different opinion on the subject, and I
just wanted to let the guy know both sides of the story before he decides.
