I appreciate the responses to my reference to a modem failure.
Stephan, Looks like you hit it.  The modem is not found by MSD.
The solution here is to buy only from vendors that understand the Linux 
hardware requirements.  eLinux.com?

My larger problem, however, is the install failure of Linux-Mandrake 7.0.  I 
have it installed on another machine that uses ATI Xpert 98 AGP.  Initial 
install works but it will not upgrade mdk6.1.

Bought this official Mandrake package at CompUSA.  Do I need 7.02?  How do I 
get it?
