Did you first run "modprobe ppa"?
You may want to put that into your /etc/rc.d/rc.local:
# Install the ZIP drive driver module. C^2 1999 12 16
modprobe ppa
so that it runs when you reboot.
Also, if you use jaZip, check the version on the CD-ROM. You may have to
get the latest version so that it works with your more modern libraries. I
know 22, which is what came with Mandrake 6.1, is obsolete. The latest is
32.
