Thanks -- and yes, you are right. I figured this out on my own, so I'm adding this
to the public record.
The two places are "General Setup" and "Character Devices."
You not only have to set "Parallel port support" to yes (in General Setup) but
also set "Parallel printer support" to yes (in Character Devices).
