The quick way to fix it is to copy your important files from the old
user directories to somewhere safe. (/tmp/username will work) Then
delete the user and recreate the user. This would get you working again
but would not help you find the problem and learn from it. As root use
netcfg and look at the names and hosts. Is your hostname there including
your local domainname. Are you a single machine or do you have a network
with other machines on it? If you are alone then the domainname is
whatever you want it to be and the hostname is computername.domainname
(you choose both). If not then other considerations apply and I need
more info. Also cruise thru the other panels in netcfg but don't mess
with anything else yet.
