Yes, I finally got it going! In short, three problems: 1) the kernel doc I was using refers to irq 5 in one place, but irq 7 for the same device elsewhere. 2) the chip can run in either it's native mode or soundblaster emulation. The kernel doc has a setup that seems to offer both, but it wouldn't work for me until I removed the soundblaster emulation and also the joystick section. 3) (whoops) I put some commands in the wrong file! the doc just said they were needed, it didn't say where! and I guessed wrong (OK, so I'm still learning!) Sorry. If anyone has this chip & wants fuller instructions, ask & I will post them. Trevor
