Hi!

So I started do your job and looked up the docs (I was using streamers
way back...)!
You won't belive, but there is actually step by step guide in taper
package...
It covers all steps, from kernel compilation to useage of taper...

So here we go, and next time, do your homework better :)

- You have SCSI tape drivers, so there is no need for anything else than
"SCSI Tape drive" support compiled into kernel (or module). Ofcourse you
need a generic SCSI support and support for your controler...

- And there you will have neat devices like /dev/st0 (rewinding) and
/dev/nst0 (non-rewinding). You should use non-rewinding device when you
DON'T want the tape to rewind to start after the operation...
Actually you should see info on recognized SCSI devices on boot if you
have default kernel...Or have SCSI support compiled in...

And what should I say...Look what a neat man page mt has...

- Try: "mt -f /dev/st0 status" and you should get status of the tape
- Try: "mt -f /dev/st0 rewind" and you should be on the start of tape
...

Got the idea?

Not get yourself together and get those backup's running with taper! :)

bye, Alen
