Whatever. I don't see anyone telling the original poster: "I have a xxx kbs
internet connection and download at xx KB per second from such.andso.com
server, therefore you should expect the same from your ISP. If not, then
find another vendor!"
And the major point for comments like:

is that the person posting it is RUDE. You could say, "Oh, that's not been
my experience. ...." and then go on to say something about your connection
(aDSL, ISDN, 56k, etc.) or where you dl from. Something with some real meat
in it.
My question is: "Is any of this bantering about download speeds helping the
guy that posted?!?"
Bill
P.S. Brian, did you get the null smbpasswords working?

Yes; in fact, Netscape was the one where I meased the actual 1.2G
throughput, though I've seen plenty at over 15k. And plenty of them
*are* lots slower, but I wouldn't say that
"few" can go over 15k.

Well, I agree that the tone of his post was less then agreeable and less
constructive than it might have been, but it did, in fact, provide some
information to the original poster; namely, that it *should* be possible
for him to get greater througput than he's getting.
I believe this to be accurate based on my experience.
[And let's net get into cumulative internet experience. I've been
connected one way or another since 1982 when it was usenet + arpanet +
bitnet with various visible gateways connecting them . . . my wife was
astounded when we visited NY and I was terribly excited to see the famed
"SUNYBING" in glorious physical reality. Yeah, I know. Nobody here
knows what I'm talking about . . . the speed then was often measured in
*days* for messages to go across the world. Physical mail was sometimes
faster than e-mail and usually faster than newsgroup messages.]
