Hello all,

I recently purchased Linux Mandrake 7.0 version of Linux. I am experiencing an
installation problem.

I am new to Linux (but very familiar with Unix) and have tried to install using
the "expert" option specified at the boot prompt.

I then tell the install program I have a SCSI CDROM and when asked if I have
any SCSI adapters I select Adaptec 2940 from the list (since there is no
listing for 3940).

I let the system do the Autoprobe and it seems to find the adapter and the two
SCSI channels. After recognizing the adapter it then tries (I think) to reset
the card) and receives the following error messages.

<4> SCSI : 2 hosts
<4> SCSI : aborting command due to timeout : pid 0, scsi0, channel0, id 0, lun
0 0x00 00 00 00 00 00 00
<4> SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0
<4> SCSI host 0 abort (pid 0) timed out resetting

then the messages repeat with an additional one stating it is "trying harder".

This repeats endlessly.

Now I know about the "aic7xxx=<extended>,<no_reset> parameter but have NO IDEA
where to enter it, what an example boot prompt might look like, etc. As I
said I'm new to Linux (less than 3 days).

My system is an Intel Pentium 133 with Diamond Viper video card, Intel Pro
10/100 LAN card and obviously Adaptec 3940 card with Seagate Barracuda 9 gig
hard drive on channel A and a Toshiba 3501B CDROM on Channel B.

Can anyone offer any advice on how to proceed?

Later,

Mark
