Dear Gnome:
I just recently downloaded Helix Gnome from the Web. I normally use KDE,
but I was very impressed with the new Helix Dome. I am speaking as an
ordinary user, NOT as a programmer. The look and feel and themes and
menu fonts and panel -- everything looked so much better than the Gnome
1.0 of a year ago.
Still, I have one question:
Why does the File Manage have to LOOK so UGLY: those widgets that
represent the files are ugly. Simple as that. Why? Is it because the
GTK+ language used? If not, in all due respect, how can you expect to
attract Windows users with these ugly widgets? I am especially thinking
of Eazel, which will be using Gnome. They are out to challenge Microsoft
on the desktop and with Gnome. Gnome is now genuinely attractive, but do
you really think that this File Manager with its widgets will conquer
the world? I doubt it. Can't the Gnome people give it some real class?
Hope I am on the right track in my criticism.
My best wishes to Gnome, and, Eazel, knock'em dead!
Benjamin
