worth a try! I'll put the k6-2 400 from my wife's machine in here and see
if it fixes the problem and I will try the supermount disable and see what
that says too...thank you so much for taking the time to reply!

I usually don't reply to html but I saw this title in
my trash just before I dumped it.

This is unlikely to be a software problem. Offhand I
would say the K6-3 may be the culprit. The tri-level
cache never did work well enough for AMD to continue
it, and what you describe could be explained by
something not being flushed from the cache..

I have an identical CDRW running on the same GigaByte
board with a K6-2 and I have had it there since 6.1 and
now into 7.1 and I am unable to duplicate your error.

To check for a software problem, login as root, raise a
Konsole and type

supermount disable

Then physically mount a data CD and try to read the
directory by clicking on the CD icon. If that does not
work, your problem is almost certainly hardware.

For the hardware problem, the remedies might be as
follows:

1. Go to www.gigabyte.com and download and flash the
latest version of the BIOS, especially if it supports
ort is purported to support, the K6-3.

2. Try using a K6-2
