Hello,

I'm using Mandrake 7.0 on several machines and wish to update files on
all the machines quickly. My boss told me to check out rdist, because
it would do the job. I've made a simple distfile to update /etc/motd,
but everytime I run rdist, I keep getting "Permission denied" errors.
I've tried:

- editing hosts.deny (removing everything, allowing access from
anywhere)
- editing hosts.equiv (to allow the host I'm updating from)
- editing /etc/inetd.conf (to allow remote shells & logins)
- restarting after all these changes

I've also tried using ssh (the secure shell), but am getting similar
error messages (I suspect the authentications keys are at fault). Could
somebody help me with rdist?

Also: In /etc/profile, there are lines at the bottom with the label
"Mandrake-Security". Could somebody explain these to me? I've
commented them out, and am still having no success with rdist.

Thanks,

Jason Krautle
