You might tell the modem it need not wait for a dial tone.
You might shorten the pause between digits.
These are Modem Initialization issues.
Thes could help speed your time to connect, but I'm sorry I do not
know what is taking the 8-12 seconds before your modem is taken
off-hook.
How did you enable dial on demand?
