I'm wondering if the masquerading IRC module is
is the backup. If it must be loaded and then
finds that it's request must wait for diald to
complete, there may be some sort of overlapping
of wait periods.
try
insmod
/lib/modules/your_kernel_version/ipv4/ip_masq_irc.o
before you start mIRC.
