[expert] prob detecting ISA devices?

I have recently been working on the conversion of two co-workers at 
home.  Both of them have tried installing 7.1 and all goes well except that 
it does not detect their ISA devices (sound cards, and a 
non-winmodem).  Otherwise things work well.  They are not detected on 
startup during the hardware detection phase either.  They are both generic 
SB 16 clones and 3com modems.  Is there a trick that we are missing in 
getting these things detected?  Thanks much in advance.
