Have a look at the Text Terminal HOWTO
<http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Text-Terminal-HOWTO-1.html>. Basically
you have to run a getty on your serial port, and plug a terminal (or PC
running terminal emulation software) into it with a null modem cable.
