When you say 'old pc', how old do you mean, and what sort of video
card/monitor does it have? This is really what will determine what you
can display on it. If you've got an EGA monitor or earlier hooked up to
it, then I doubt X will do anything except destroy it. I've only ever
hooked up really old machines as terminals (XT's running emulation,
VT100's) so I've never been able to try it, but if you've got a terminal
with a VGA monitor, you might be able to get X running on it - just
remember to stay within the capabilities of the monitor on the terminal.
Probably the type of terminal emulation you've got running on the old pc
will also be important, and might make running X on the terminal
impossible, eg running VT100 emulation you won't be able to use X,
because a VT100 has no idea what to do with any of the X stuff. You'd
need to run emulation that understood about X. Not much help sorry, this
isn't something I have experience with.
