just off the top of my head; a user can get his IP by getting the hostname then pinging it. $hostname bob.my-ip.com $ ping bob.my-ip.com PING bob.my-ip.com (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) <= there's your ip it's clunky but, hey G >>> btw, I want to know the IP as a user.. so cant' run ifconfig.. >>> >>> This, I think is the bottleneck of linux and _has_ to be improved..
