ifconfig - or, if you'd like to have the pure ip for scripting try:

export LOCALIP=`ifconfig ppp0 | grep inet | cut -d : -f 2 | cut -d \  -f 1`

or if you have ISDN

export LOCALIP=`ifconfig ippp0 | grep inet | cut -d : -f 2 | cut -d \  -f 1`

the use

'ping $LOCALIP' or whatever..
