Dear people, Just FYI. I'm a long-time slackware user wanting to try out Mandrake, so I installed a version (supposedly 7.02) from a CD on a laptop and that went very smooth. However, I stumbled on a problem very similar to this one in the archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg10025.html It's a Dell laptop but the setup is the same as with the Compaq Armada: only one modular bay in which one either puts the CD drive or the floppy drive. The solution was simple of course, I removed /mnt/floppy from /etc/fstab. I don't expect to use floppy disks much, and I like SuperMount to mount the CD much like vold does under Solaris. Apart from this problem I am very happy with the user-friendliness of Mandrake - I intend to recommend it to friends who are ready to try out Linux as an alternative to Windoze. CU, Sico.
