Hello,

I am trying to use the kickstart installation feature of Mandrake 7.1 with no luck. The computer installs fine from CD but but when I try to install it with the auto install feature, the IDE disk is not detected. The computer is a Compaq Armada 7400. The laptop gives me the following messages:

hda: ERROR, PORTS ALREADY IN USE

I cannot make the floppy and the cdrom live together on the system. Then, the floppy is in the multibay slot and booting the kickstart disk. At boot time, the kickstart disk initializes the PCMCIA, it finds the network card, configure it with dhcp and reach an NFS machine to get the distribution. The second stage installation begins and stops to "Setup filesystems" forever. the ALT-F7 window gives me an infinite-loop of module probing for usb-storage, ppa and imm. I traced back the dmesg log and finally get the above error messages about the IDE. I guess the installation hangs because of them. Please, if someboy already experienced and solved this problems, contact me. I am used to the RedHat kickstart feature and new the the Mandrake one. I have tried Mandrake 7.0 but the bootdisk gives me kernel crash at boot time before or at the PCMCIA detection. Where ca I find good information on how to setup the kickstart feature for Mandrake 7.0/7.1 ?

I read this stuff:
    http://www.linux-mandrake.com/drakx/auto_inst.html
but it seems outdated.

Thanks,

Claude.
