Does anyone know the best way to upgrade glibc
libraries? I always do a 'rpm -Uvh
glibc-<version>.i586.rpm'
But that make my system a little bit unstable since
most programs make use of glibc in one way or another.
After I do an upgade of glibc I always reboot my
computer, but I experience problems like: Some programs won't
gracefully die and the root filesystem refuses to umount which can
lead to loss of files (luckily never happend). This also happens when I do
the upgade in single usermode.
I think it would be a good thing to
boot from a floppy disk or something like that. Mount '/' (root fs)
manually and then do the upgrade and umount filesystems like root
filesystem ('/') manually again. I never had experience with
this. Can anyone share his/her opinion on this matter? If anyone has
other opinions on "savely" upgrade glibc please let me know. All
suggestions/tips are welcome.
Thanks,
Marcus
