Hanven't run a CD Burner on Linux yet.  BUT I do know of an excellent resource potential.  Maximum Linux this month has a whole spread on CD Burners and the CD rom included is a plethora of CD burner software.

I have everything working except the CD (for audio and for Burning).  I have a HP 8250i and I can mount it, read data from it, but I can't play an audio CD or get cdrecord -scanbus to show it up.  I have SCSI Emulation as a module and IDE CD-ROM as a module in the kernel config.  Please give me some pointers here.
