I just installed the 1.94 rpm's from cooker the
night before last. I can not get kde2 to work
hardly at all. However, kdebase would not install
from the rpm. I d/l'ed it twice from different
sites and the same error of some file being unable
to be unpacked. kde2 will come up, but hardly anything
works. Anyone know where to find a good rpm for kdebase?

Also, I can not rpm -e any kde files. I was thinking of
removing kde altogether and then try a fresh install of it.
rpm -e file.rpm wont let me due to dependency probs.
How can I remove more than one rpm at a time? the * wildcard
doesn't work.

Subject: [expert] KDE 2 problems continue..

Hi guys,

Is anyone out there trying out KDE 2 regularly? I still have the following
problems..

1. KControl still crashes (both command line and non-command line)
2. Konqueror is still a bit buggy when it comes to file management
3. KSpread and KWord are crashing once in a while
4. KAutorun, which I thought was a very tidy application, and which in my
opinion should have been started by default by Mandrake, is no more there!
5. Quanta that comes with 7.2 beta dosn't start either!
6. Application Launcher Applet is totally screwed up!.. It just can't get
focus.. and it dosn't remember the apps I ran on the previous login!
7. Memory Usage.. when I login with nothing running, memory usage is 60MB!!
How do we expect people with 32 and 64MB machine to ever run Mandrake
7.2!!! (I use 1600x1400 resolution)

These are the problems I remember.. there are few others too..

What I want to know is.. Is it me who is getting these problems (I
installed/upgraded KDE 2 on my 7.1 machine.. I havn't tried 7.2 beta yet)?
Or does 7.2 beta installation run smoothly?

I definitely hope 7.2 dosn't ship with these bugs! .. a bad name for linux,
KDE and Mandrake is what we'll get in return :(

On the +ve side..

Konqueror is extremely fast for browsing now (though Mozilla is caching up
too!) Infact I like the way Mozilla renders pages than the way Konqueror
does.. Mozilla dosn't move things around.. Konqueror does... neway, Mozilla
takes up 20Mb or more!! Konqueror is just around 4MB.
