As long as you're having such a good time, why don't you post the rest of
the message. cpio: unlink etc (probably failed, perhaps text file busy?) If
so, it's still do-able. Are you in X when trying to install?

In theory, I believe, rpm's been patched to allow it to proceed even if a
file (ie binary) is busy. Don't give up just when you're having fun.

Subject: [expert] kde binary wont install - dead kde

Damn, this is fun.

I have tried to BUILD the src.rpms, to no avail. I have tried to
install the precompiled i586 rpms, get all of them installed except
one. I cannot install kdebase. I first tried kdebase-1.94. Then,
overnight, the kde rpms were upgraded to 1.99. I downloaded all of
them and tried to install THEM. They all install except for kdebase.

Every time I try to install kdebase, I get this:

kdebase ################################unpacking of
archive failed on file /usr/share/apps/kdm/pics/users: cpio: unlink

Huh? What the fu...?

I sure would like to once again be able to run kde and various and
sundry kde apps, but I
cannot. I tried to run one or two apps, hoping I would get a partially
useful system
as is but when I try, I get this:

Trying to start konsole from an xterm (Gnome works fine, other wm work
fine):

konsole: error in loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/libkdecore.so.3:
undefined symbol: getButtonShift__14QPlatinumStyleRiT1

Great. libkdecore is supplied by kdelibs. I downloaded and installed
the kdelibs and kdelibs-devel precompiled binaries, yet kde doesn't
like its own rpms! It doesn't like what is IN its own rpms.

Can anyone shed light here? I am getting close to going to RedHat
again. I want and need a working or even semi-working system.
