Ah hell.  I had hopes for that one but it is the SAME.

STILL with the cpio: unlink.  Subsequently trying to run anything
results, as before,
with:

No go. I have the same rpms installed as you list, for kde, and nearly
ALL the relevant
other rpms from cooker.
