If you had problems due to upgrading to 2.96, it should. Version. Basically every time a package is compiled and packaged again. When I compile a kernel , I copy it to /boot, and name it vmlinuz<kernel_version>_bgmx where bgm indicates who compiled it (me) and the x indicates which one is was (I took 5 compiles to get exactly the kernel I wanted the first time).
