FWIW, I had a problem with pppd some time back - I downloaded a new kernel, and
it needed a new version of pppd, which I couldn't build. I got onto the
linux-ppp list run  by [EMAIL PROTECTED] Some guy writing patches for
pppd wrote  a patch for my system, and it got going. 

I'll tell you what's wrong. pppd is so universal you need to tell it exactly
how to connect you, hence all the knobs, settings, and switches. You've got it
wrong, and kppp has it right.
