Make sure you have an entry in the server's /etc/hosts file for the machine you're telnetting in from. (i.e., if you're running telnet from "192.168.0.2" to log in to "192.168.0.1", put "192.168.0.2 SomeComputerNameHere" in /etc/hosts of "192.168.0.1".) -- Asheesh.
