I've been having this very same problem at work and I haven't found a solution 'yet'. But in that case it is not a LM-specific problem, I've tryed 'almost all' the Linux dists on the market to install on that particular computer and they all freeze when loading into ramdisk, except Caldera which installs with the help of 'Lisa' the text-based install program.
