Under KDE 1.1.2, it was a simple thing to play wav files. I could open kmedia and play any ol' wav. Under Mandrake 7.2 with KDE 2, I cannot. I guess kmedia is no more? In any case, here's the deal. I try to play a wav file and nothing happens. If I simply click on a KDE wav icon, for instance, in /usr/share/sounds, I get a bunch of hdd activity for about 10 seconds followed by nothing. No sound is played. No error messages are produced either. So far, the only wav files that play at present is the opening kde wav and the closing wav file. Nothing in between those events. When playing these waves, they are terribly screwed up with cricket- sounding chirping static (I have posted other messages in regards to THAT specific problem). What took the place of kmedia? Any ideas why I can't seem to successfully play any wav files other than the automatic opening and closing kde wavs? I am running Mandrake 7.2, alsa sound libs instead of OSS, kernel-2.2.17, Creative AudioPCI (es1371) soundcard. praedor
