Have you already read http://localhost:631/documentation.html? I do not
know what there is written about TrueType, but probably you will find
the correct info there.

Yes, but the operation is different: The CUPS driver uses the
CUPS-internal RIP (Raster Image Processor), and the Foomatic solution
uses GhostScript. So font extensions of Mandrake you only see with the
Foomatic stuff. The big advantage of the CUPS driver is the easy colour
calibration with "calibrate-gimpprint", so it's better for photos and
graphics. The GhostScript driver has a lot of adjustments (look into the
options which xpp or qtcups displays for a printer/queue configured with
"Foomatic"). It is much more difficult to to do a full calibration, but
you can send some slight adjustments along with an individual job. In
addition you have the additional fonts and so this solution is better
for formatted text documents.
