Tom, Just for the sake of a good discussion, I said "common reasons." There are of course exceptions. The board and RAM I just replaced is a good example. The RAM was recognized in both Windows and Linux, yet 90MB of the 160MB were bad. It was sporadic. When it worked it was great but when it didn't it was a nightmare to diagnose. Pj
