I haven't had any problems with this card, I switch back and forth between static and 
dynamic,
and it works fine.

It sounds like you are getting a Dynamic address from somewhere on your network; some 
moron
might have a DHCP server setup and spamming your net with bogus IPs (I have that 
problem on my
home network all the time).

I assume your linux static address has the same netmask/IP as the win 98 setup, so do 
the
following commands:

Linux (in static mode, that doesn't work):
netstat -rn
ifconfig eth0 (or whatever interface it is)


On Win98 (in static mode, when it works):
route print


If you want, send them back to me (or the list) and I'll see if there's an 
inconsistency.
