Subject: [expert] Kernel problem with Mandrake 7.2

Hi all,

I hope this mail message gets on the list ok.

I have been having problems installing Mandrake 7.2.
The boot from cdrom or floppy stops after the detection of hda. It
seems that kernel 2.2.17 does not recognise my Promise Ultrs66
controller and the two disks attached to them. This is proved by
removing the controller card, then 7.2 installes without error. Another
indication is that if I install kernel 2.2.16 then the controller and
disks are recognised and all is well.
Why does this happen with a new release, one would think that 2.2.17
should be better than 2.2.16. Or is that whishfull thinking?

Can anybody help me solve this problem please?

Could anybody provide me with a complete set of disks from the site
please? I will pay all costs, I just can't afford to download them
though my modem.

I would also like all of the upgrades listed on the site for 7.2 as this
would take hours to download.

Thanks in anticipation, please contact me privately if you can provide
the cd's

regard
Paul
