Eunice, I have exactly the same problem with a Toshiba Sat Pro 420CDT. The problem seems to be in Xfree 4.01 as it works fine with 3.3.6 You may want to check whether you are using the framebuffer on the console, as I seem to remember getting Xfree 4 to work when I wasn't using the framebuffer. That said, to switch back to 3.3.6 you may already have it installed (I did). In which case all you need to do is to make sure that /etc/X11/XF86Config is configured properly, and then change the symbolic link of /etc/X11/X to point to /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA (instead of XFree86 in the same directory). The reboot X and you should be up and running, but using 3.3.6 instead of 4.01. If this isn't the case (an d you can't find XFree86_SVGA) then give me a shout and I'll help you to re-install 3.3.6. That said, if anybody _does_ know how to get XFree 4.01 to work with a Chips and Tech 65550 I'd be interested! Regards Dom
