You could try changing some of the aRTs settings in the Control Center -> Sound -> Sound Server section. I myself had problems with my AudioPCI and a SB PCI 128 and sound distortion. I would get a cricket-like chirping noise overlaying and overwhelming the actual sounds (wav files, etc) though there was no problem when playing CDs. Ultimately, I dumped my AudioPCI and the 128 and went with the built-in ac97 sound system on my motherboard. Not the best option, and not always an option for others, but that was the quickest and easiest fix for me. It works fine for my limited sound needs, at least. If you cannot get aRTs to play nice, then I suppose you could dump it and go with using strictly alsa or oss the old-fashioned way (which worked quite well). I am not sure what is involved in that so someone else would need to guide you in that endeavor. praedor
