Things like php and ssl work out-the-box (I had trouble with this on
Redhat). urpmi doesn't have an equal on other rpm distros, although it
apparently isn't quite as good as apt on debian. Th emost useful tool
would probably be MandrakeUpdate, which means that you would need some
parts of X, but if you can secure this, it means you save time updating.
Webmin is also installed with ssl out-the-box, so you have (realtively)
secure web-based configuration.
