Looks like you didn't understand nothing about the way the Internet
Printing Protocol works. The IPP is used only between the different
Cups-Instances, or Programs that have been programmed for. it has nothing
to do with the printer itself (At least, not yet). The IPP gives your
System the ability to install the printer in the Cups-Configuration on the
Server, and all other systems on your Network using Cups, will
automatically see this Printer. So, let's call it an intersystem
communication protocoll in this case.
At my place at home, the Mandrake-7.2 Installation has detected my
Kyocera-Fs600 +KPDL2 module automatically through the parallel Port, and
installed it. I admit the ppd-file was sparse and I replaced it with the
one provided on the Printer-CD, but it worked Flawlesly.
I have to admit that It's a Postscript-Printer, but before I do buy
something, I always inform myself on what to buy - and I take the best
Bet.

One little Hint. I bet you did get a PPD-File on your Cannon-CD Rom. Have
a look at it, and just use that one. (It's the file usually installed on
the Windows Installation).
