It fired right up. I hope I hit the link you are refering to, but to double
check everything and myself I clicked on the tomb raider link from the
real.com site which states it requires RealPlayer8. That also came up with
no problems.
I would have to say rp8 is out there for linux and seems to be working fine.
Did you try downloading the rpm again, just in case there was a problem with
the one you got?
I checked my netscape mime types and here are a couple of samples to see if
they help you out
Description: RealMedia File
MimeType: application/vnd.rn-realmedia
Suffixes: .rm
Application: /usr/X11R6/bin/realplay %s
Description: RealVideo File
MimeType: video/vnd.rn-realvideo
Suffixes: .rv
Application: /usr/X11R6/bin/realplay %s
Description: RealAudio File 2
MimeType: audio/x-pn-realaudio
Suffixes: .ra,.ram
Application: /usr/X11R6/bin/realplay %s
Description:
MimeType: audio/x-pn-aiff
Suffixes: aiff,af
Application: /usr/lib/RealPlayer8/realplay "%u"
Now the /usr/X11R6/bin/realplay is actually a link to
/usr/lib/RealPlayer8/realplay and the %s is important in getting realplayer
to load with the files you want to play.
So first thing I would do is check and see if you have the
/usr/lib/RealPlayer8 dir. If so then realplayer 8 was installed for you and
it is most likely an issue of mime types and application helpers. If that is
the case check out an earlier email in this thread that had the instructions
for setting up the mime types.
