Cecil,
I had this problem but last week resolved it. You need to press F1 when the
cd starts and then type - expert linux ide2=noautotune ide3=noautotune
You should now find that the system installs and shows you your disks etc.
The problem seems to be that Mandrake has optimised 7.2 for UDMA100 and this
doesn't like some UDMA66 disks.
After the installation I installed the 7.2 kernel 2.2.15 from Mandrake and I
now have UDMA66 disks working properly.
