Since you have no name server on your LAN, each machine on the LAN
must be manually set up to use your ISP's name servers. For Linux
machines, this involves copying the gateway machine's
/etc/resolv.conf file to each of the other machines. You must also
have /etc/hosts in each machine set up with the names & IP addresses
of all the other machines on the LAN if you wish to talk with them.
All machines must have /etc/nsswitch set to examine the local
/etc/hosts first for hosts.
For Windows machines there must be a similar arrangement set up.
