If you're booted to Linux and running any Linux email app, just delete
with your email app and it's gone.

"Get" has multiple meanings. You can *receive* anything that can be
attached to email, provided it doesn't get filtered by a moderator, mail
server, or ISP or some other means before it gets to your inbox. You can
only be *infected* with a virus that can be run on your system. I
suppose it's conceivable that a windoze virus might be able to do some
damage if you are running a windoze email app under Wine, but not likely
you'd get infected any other way while booted to Linux.
