Well, I think its time to cry for help.
I've got a LM7.x system at home (I *think* its 7.2, but
it could be 7.1, and I've done no upgrades on it, having
been in 'mortal fear' of doing one and breaking myself,
since this is my main machine at home).
Running CUPS because it didn't work with lpr either ;-) / 2
I have an apple LaserWriter IINT connected to one of the
serial ports, and a Canon 6000 on the parallel port.
I'd really like to get ONE of these printers working!
When I print to the Canon, I get an error return in the log, but
cannot find anywhere that says more than 'error -1' (or some other
nice negative number ;-)
The LWIINT seems to be having a problem listening all of a sudden.
I was able to talk to it for a bit at first, but now I cannot
even get the green light to flash when I send things to it (even
manually using minicom). I'm afraid this will turn into one of
those exciting serial port games (yes, I have a breakout box and
I'm reasonably certain that I've jumpered the correct status
pins together). (Wish I still had access to a serial protocol
analyzer!) If anyone has any magic bullets (including buying
this thing off me so I can go fix my HP LJ that needs gears!) -
I'm listening! Email privately or here, whatever...
Unfortunately, I'm going to be rather vague on what I did, and
I'm at a location where I cannot access the machine right now, so
cannot get better info at this point.
For now, I'll drop the LWIINT questions, since my first task
is to verify that the hardware works!
So, on the Canon - I went to the linuxprinting site, found a
thing that purported to make a descr file for you for the 6000,
ran it, copied the output to the right place in the dir path,
RESTARTED CUPS! (that's not easily found in the docs! We won't
talk about how much wailing and gnashing of teeth went on while
I tried to figure out why the files were not found! ;-), and
tried to print.
Like I said - all I can find in any log is that the daemon
(I think) returned an error code.
What info can I dig off my machine that will help 'us' figure out
what in the world I've missed?
Thanks!
