yes, we decided all of the above. ;-)
(having given the real answer, I'll now give false answers: Personal preference
is to interleave whenever even marginally appropriate. And trim as much as
possible - but I've seen folks say they like the extra quoting, 'cause then
they only have to save the last message in the thread and they have everything.
But if the thread is not a single strand you'll have to save more than one
anyhow... Also, I've seen someone 'post'(see '*') here who has a reference
in his signature to where to go for instructions on how to quote (as well
as another message someone sent a while back referencing a (different?) page
