KDM gets it's list of windowmanagers from the files in /etc/X11/wmsession.d
It sounds like you just need to make a new gnome entry in this directory.  The format 
of these is pretty 
simple, just copy one of the others and change the name= and exec= lines to point to 
the new gnome 
installation.
