Hi . sorry if this seems a bit repetive, Working my way through the local network here replacing argumentive german s/w with Mandrake !. no firewall on this machine, so ipchains not running, for some reason /etc/services dos'nt seem to be being read. Using xinetd and not inetd as on the other machine. There are entries in inetd.conf which work if inetd is started with one exception. The local network here is on the 44.0.0.0 HAM domain so I always route port 23 tcp &upd to another application which removes some of the winging that they cant login. I dont want anyone apart from me loggin into the OS. I have scripts in /etc/xinetd.d/ for telnet which now points to /usr/sbin/node and for ltelnet pointing to /usr/sbin/in.tenetd This works fine on the other machine, but not on this one. :( I probaly blundered my way thru before without spotting what I'd done ! Are thereany security features which disable reading of /etc/services ? running at msec3. The telnet server is runing ok on the machine as I can telnet to localhost albeit no on the right port ! Has any got a fix for this font prob where the Xserver fails due to the in ability to open "default font fixed" a df on /usr shows 90% on mine ...this is a real pain as the thing works weel for yonks , then falls over and not only on this distro !
