Damn,, I thought 2.4.1-10 was the latest,, when did 15 arrive? I downlaoded
10 last night on my 56k connection all ready to compile and they release
another..........:-(

Oh,, speaking of which,, does anyone know how 2.4.1-X deals with hdparm
drive optimisations?

I have added hdparm -X33 -d1 -u1 -m16 -c3 /dev/hda to /etc/rc.d and it makes
a massive diffenece to disk speed...

however only 2.2.17 kernel likes it, the 2.4.1-10 kernel gets to it, and
then just dies.. hence my question...

So, does 2.4.1 do it automatically? (ie test for UDMA and use it if
available) or is it something I am missing?

If there is no way to use it in 2.4.1, is there a script that I can add it
to so that it is only run when the kernel booting is 2.2.17-x

Subject: [expert] cooker kernel 2.4.1 rpms

Hi,
I am going to take the plunge and try my hand at upgrading Mandrake
7.2 kernel to the latest kernel 2.4.1 using the RPM files in Mandrake
cooker - I have found these files:

kernel-doc-2.4.1-15mdk.i586.rpm
kernel-headers-2.4.1-15mdk.i586.rpm
kernel-source-2.4.1-15mdk.i586.rpm

but no kernel-utils-2.4.1 RPM?? Does anyone know why this is??
Do I really need this package??
Thanks for your assistance in this matter.
