I hadn't even considered that file.  Anyway, I have built three versions of 
the kernel, two on my desktop system with slightly different modules setup 
for each and one on my laptop just a few minutes ago, though I haven't yet 
rebooted to try it out yet (have to wait for my kde sources to finish 
building).  Each time, with just the files you list, they have built fine and 
without problem.  The kernels worked fine on my desktop and one is running as 
my default now.  

I tend to have more difficulty getting a kernel to work properly on my 
laptop, but I am hoping this time I will luck out.
